The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST): The GDST is the largest group of independent schools in the UK and currently educates over 20,000 students aged 3 to 19 in 29 schools. As a charity it reinvests all income in its schools for the benefit of students. It has a reputation for pioneering innovation in the education and care of students and is recognised at home and abroad for academic excellence. The GDST is increasingly aware of its responsibility to provide a greater international dimension to students’ education so that they will have the confidence and the competence to play a full part in a global society. To the GDST this means:

  • expanding horizons and opportunities for students and staff,
  • giving our young people a wider understanding, and
  • ensuring that they have the relevant, high-quality language skills which allow them not only to be understood, but also provide them with an insight into the mindsets of other cultures.

To this end, GDST schools are introducing new languages, promoting cross-cultural awareness and preparing students for life in a fast-changing global society. Part of this will involve twinning each of its UK schools with an international partner for linked curriculum projects, and staff and student exchanges. The Belvedere Academy will be part of the family of GDST schools.

HSBC Global Education Trust: The HSBC Global Education Trust supports innovative projects in the UK and across the globe. It seeks to open doors of opportunity for young people by raising standards of education and focusing on:

  • primary and secondary education programmes for children or schools in disadvantaged areas
  • language programmes
  • programmes to promote international understanding among young people
  • programmes that encourage greater understanding of business and finance
  • attitudinal education
