On the 30th of January, thanks to Mansells the construction company, three girls from the journalist team were given the chance to visit the construction site along with a handful of other lucky girls. Wearing hard hats and high-visibility jackets, and accompanied by Mr Lowe; Mr Kennedy; Mr Irwin; and Mr McGarry the girls were given the chance to explore the site and interview the builders. It was a wonderful opportunity for the girls and everyone had a great experience.

Interview:

Q: When approximately do you think the whole project will be finished?

A: We’re due to move in May half-term.

Q: So, is everything running smoothly and as planned?

A: Just about, we are working pretty fast so we should be done within the time limit.

Q: What part of the building are you working on now and what parts have been completed?

A: Well, none of the parts have been fully completed yet, just in the process. We are working on the whole extension.

Q: What are the working conditions like?

A: This building is so cold but so safe. If there was a war and a bomb was going to drop over Liverpool, I’d be coming straight here!

Q: So, honestly have there been any accident or near-death experiences?

A: I can truthfully say that there have been no accidents just yet (walks into a hanging light bulb wire and laughs.)

Q: Are any drastic changes happening to the existing school buildings?

A: Yes all the existing science labs are being changed. The top floor labs are being refitted with new equipment; the middle floor labs are being ripped out and made into ICT rooms for MFL and Lab A is being made into a staff room. Also the form room block classrooms are being refurbished. While this happens the English, Maths and Language lessons will most probably be held in the fitness suite in the new extension. The fitness suite will have double doors that we could extend out and make into an even bigger hall.

Q: Are there any eye catching features in the building that you think everyone will love?

A: Well, we are fitting gold full length doors which will be used as the visitor’s entrance.
