Year 8 pupils enjoyed a guided Ghost Walk around the city, organised by the Library and English department.

Pupils took a short train journey to the city centre and began at St Luke’s Church, for what promised to be an interesting day of frightening tales and intrigue.

Our host was Captain Moonlight, wonderfully well-dressed in his black coat and tricorn hat; and remarkably young-looking for a 100 year old Highwayman.

He escorted the girls around the city streets and St James’s Cemetery, telling ghostly stories, researched by Tom Slemen, author of the Haunted Liverpool series. The pupils were also given a ‘Ghost-meter’ to try and pick up any supernatural activity in the cemetery, but it seems that ghosts are shy of school girls, as none made their presence felt!

Once back at the Academy, the girls spent the afternoon engaged in creative writing, inspired the day’s events. The Ghost Walk was run by Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre in Formby. The money raised by the pupils goes directly to the charity. A very enjoyable day was had by all.
