ENGLISH GCSE - ACCELERATED ENTRY
AQA Specification A
Students will take the GCSE English examination in Year 10 as part of the accelerated entry programme. This enables students to concentrate on just one subject in the first year of Key Stage 4 therefore enabling sole focus on Literature at the end of Year 10 and the whole of Year 11.
The course will be assessed through two examinations and coursework.
Paper 1: 30% of the total marks
Section A: Reading response to non-fiction/media texts.
Section B: Choice of one from three or more questions testing writing which
seeks to argue, persuade or advise.
Paper 2: 30% of total marks
Section A: Reading response to poetry from different cultures and traditions in
the AQA Anthology.
Section B: Choice of one from three or more questions testing writing which
seeks to inform, explain or describe.

Students will complete three Speaking and Listening assessments: an individual extended contribution, group discussion and drama focused activity focusing on the triplets:
Discuss, argue, persuade
Inform, explain, narrate
