A lot of work has been carried out over the Academy holidays including major internal works.
The new dining room extension has been completed and will be ready to use for the start of the new academic year. New dining room furniture has also been ordered and all the dining areas have been re-decorated to create a more pleasant dining experience for students and staff.
The new sports centre extension is almost complete and work will hopefully begin over the next few weeks on the new stage so that these areas can be fully utilised for Academy events.
The erection of the steel substructure of the new teaching block has begun and by the start of the new academic year will be two thirds completed. Once completed the brick work can begin and the new Academy building will really begin to take shape.
In the existing Academy buildings:
· A new classroom has been created on the top floor of House 11.
· Work has been completed on the ground floor of the music house ahead of the music departments eventual move to the staff room block and top floor of house 15.
· 2 new music practice rooms complete with acoustic doors and soundproofing have been created.
· New 6th form dining areas have been created on the ground floor of House 11.
· New flooring has been fitted throughout the Laboratory Block and House 11 stairwells.
· The Art2 classroom has been redecorated and equipped with specialised art tables.
· The Drama Room in the attic of House 17 has been redecorated and re-carpeted.
Finally, a lot of work has been carried out by the Academy maintenance officers over the summer holidays to the rear of House 11. A summer house has been installed, along with fencing and pathways to create a relaxed, quiet area for students to go during break times. It is hoped to soon add picnic benches to the other garden areas of the Academy.
Over the coming months, work will continue on the new teaching block which is on target to be completed for around Easter 2009. Work will then commence on renovating the current form room block for completion by September 2009. Further internal works will also be carried out
