Science & Engineering week runs from 12th -21st March and there will be lots going on in Science & Technology during that week.

The National Competitions which may be of interest to our pupils are the Bosch Essay Writing Competition for 14-18 year olds.  The title for this year’s essay is “Is technology and engineering essential for future development?”

The 1st Prize is £700, 2nd prize is £300 and there are 5 highly commended awards of £150.

The website www.bosch.co.uk/technologyhorizons provides information for students but also PowerPoint slides which can be used by teachers for class debate and essay writing tips.

The closing date for this competition is 22nd March 2010. Students can see me for further information and Mrs Jones has kindly offered to proof read final drafts if a hard copy is printed and passed to her in good time.

A second competition for all year groups is the RSC Bill Bryson Prize. There is no theme for this competition; students can submit a piece of work on any aspect of science that interests them. All formats will be accepted, including posters, PowerPoint presentations, magazines or articles.

There are cash prizes for winning entries and all participants receive a certificate.

Again there is a website for further details, www.rsc.org/billbrysonprize - the closing date for this competition is 21st May 2010.
