INDIVIDUAL SUCCESSES
Swimming
Paige Bowden came 5th overall in the Lancashire County Swimming Championships earlier this month and has qualified for the North West Regional Championships which will be held later in the summer. She has also won a place on the training camp for the City of Liverpool Swimming Squad, which will be held in Majorca over the October half term holiday.
Music
Hannah Parsons, who has lessons in school with Miss Milne, has won the prestigious Pianist of the Year award at the Liverpool Performing Arts Festival. The final, held at St George’s Hall, included pianists
from across the city and North West and Hannah played Chopin’s Nocturne No. 72. We look forward to hearing Hannah play at our Spring Concert on April 29th and 30th.
The whole Academy is very proud of Hannah’s success and we would like to congratulate her: Hannah please come up for your trophy.
Literature
Rachel McIver (Year 12) won the Liverpool Athenaeum prize for writers aged between 16 and 19 with her short story ‘Pippa’s Box.’ Rachel’s story was about an old man whose trip on a Mersey ferry carries him back to the war. The judges, who included David Charles of the Daily Post and Roger Phillips from Radio Merseyside, found Pippa’s Box “deeply moving and beautifully told” and awarded Rachel the award against stiff competition. Rachel’s prize included the publication of her story in the Daily Post and a period of work experience with the paper.
RAFFLE by 8HB in aid of KIND – Kids In Need and Distress.
