Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education  (PSHCE)

Lifeskills Leader

Ms. S. Carroll

Citizenship & PSHE are taught via PSHCE lessons, with pupils in Year's 7, 8 and 10 having one lesson per week, and one lesson per fortnight in Years 9 & 11.

We cover the three curricula that make up Citizenship and PSHE

  • Citizenship

  • PSHE: Personal wellbeing

  • PSHE: Economic wellbeing & financial capability

Whilst there are many cross curricular links, the time is broadly split up as follows:

Year 7 – PSHE

Year 8 - PSHE

Year 9 - Citizenship GCSE

Year 10 – Citizenship GCSE

Year 11 – PSHE

Sex and Relationship Education

There is a full programme of Sex and Relationship Education at Belvedere Academy, with a focus on self esteem and developing healthy relationships.
Sex is not promoted, but myths surrounding sex are discussed and the aim is to give all girls the facts, and to encourage them to make up their own minds about sexual relationships, rather than being swayed by peer pressure.
There is a commitment to openness, and as part of that we encourage pupils to discuss these important issues with their parents and families.

We also work closely with Miss Paterson who leads Careers education at Belvedere Academy, and a full programme of careers education is provided across the Year groups.
