Enrichment

We offer a lot more than academic excellence. Our Sixth Formers work hard, enjoy life and celebrate their successes. At The Belvedere Academy you will be expected to develop your interests and abilities through extensive opportunities and activities, and we are planning more.

  • Music is vibrant. Students can join the orchestra, string, woodwind and brass chamber ensembles and the choir, giving public performances each term.
  • There are a wide range of team and individual sports to choose from. Our Sixth Formers compete against local schools and in national tournaments. We offer the Community Sports Leadership Award in Year 12.
  • The annual Drama Festival is a highlight of the year. Year 12 students produce and direct a play with each class of younger girls the standard is high. There are also opportunities for Sixth Formers to take part in whole school productions, both on stage and behind the scenes.
  • Any Sixth Former can join the Young Enterprise scheme, setting up a real business. They design and sell products or services, appoint a Board of Directors and raise capital by selling shares. One team attended a European Trade Fair in the Netherlands! All students who take part can sit the OCR Young Enterprise Examination in Year 12, a qualification validated by the University of Oxford and recognised throughout Europe.
  • Students can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which for Sixth Formers is usually at Silver level.
  • World Challenge is the adventure of a lifetime, combining travel, trekking and voluntary work abroad. Throughout the year Sixth Formers are involved in training, fundraising and research, culminating in a four-week expedition overseas.
  • Sixth Formers support a number of charities including Jeans for Genes and Operation Christmas Child. Fundraising provides an opportunity to have fun and work with the younger pupils.
  • Sixth Formers are expected to take part in community service, choosing settings such as primary schools, old people’s homes, hospitals, or volunteering with ‘Riding for the Disabled’.
  • Clubs and activities take place at lunchtime and after school.
  • The Belvedere Academy retains its close links with the GDST and its family of schools. As a Sixth Former, along with current Sixth Formers and former students of GDST schools, you automatically join the Minerva Network. Its website – www.minerva.org.uk – offers careers advice, work experience opportunities and contacts for University visits. Minerva also provides CareerStart, life skills modules that give our Sixth Formers a competitive edge when applying for University and jobs.
