Katie, Team Donkey!

After a busy day (and an early start), many of use were tired and in dire need of relaxation.  Some interpreted this as an opportunity to indulge in some well needed retail therapy, whilst others, including the four teachers, took a more conventional approach and went to get a Chinese foot massage.  At just one hundred and twenty yuan (approx £12) for an eighty minute massage this was fantastic value for money and well worth the visit.  Entering the massage room all of use were handed cups of jasmine tea, which were constantly refilled throughout the session.

The massage itself began with us soaking our feet in a herbal foot bath, which was incredibly soothing for the feet.  Whilst our feet were bathing in the warmth, we had our hands and arms massaged, wrapped in warm towels and unusually, were hit with small wooden hammers.  All of this made many of us, especially the ticklish amongst the group, laugh a lot turning what started as a soothing massage into something a lot less relaxing but much more fun.

The masseurs themselves were very friendly, and despite the face that they spoke little English, we could effectively communicate with them.  The sessions ended with a short shoulder massage, whilst a bag of heated stones was placed on our lower backs.  Personally, that was the part of the session I found most relaxing and the only time that I remember the room being completely silent.  Overall, I found it a fantastic and relaxing experience, and one I would definitely do again.
