Careers and Higher Education

"The careers education and guidance that students receive very effectively supports them in making choices about their next steps in education or training."
Ofsted 2015

Preparation for employment is an integral part of everything we do at Belvedere. We aim to prepare our students to go to furhter or higher education or skilled employment and enable them to make a significant contribution to society.

The provision of high quality, impartial and relevant careers information, advice and guidance has never been more important than it is today. The Belvedere Academy aims to ensure that all students are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to investigate, research and enter their chosen professions.

Belvedere uses the Gatsby Benchmarks as a guide to plan our careers programme.

Good careers guidance is critical if young people are to raise their aspirations and capitalise on the opportunities available to them. To help our students make well-informed choices to enable them to progress into further learning, training or employment, the Belvedere Careers Department works with Career Connect to provide advisory meeting for all pupils in Year 11. Kim Dickson from Career Connect is Belvedere’s Careers Advisor.

Kim is in school every Wednesday and interviews all students in Year 11, giving them the opportunity to discuss their post-16 options, including sixth form, college, or apprenticeships, and can provide support with application forms, CVs and interviews.

Students in Y8-13 are encouraged to make an appointment with Kim to look at their options, including college courses, apprenticeships, employment or university. Pupils may also be referred for interview, either by Pastoral teams or the Inclusion Department. Parents/carers are welcome to get in touch at any time to discuss their daughter's plans, or any concerns they might have about careers education. Should pupils or parents wish to contact her, you can email Kim on or contact via the academy office on 0151 727 1284. Please be aware Kim is only in Belvedere one day a week when waiting for a response.

Impact of the careers programme on students.

Each year we review destination data for students. This enables the academy to understand our students’ career pathways and helps shape our careers programme and curriculum going forward. We work with a number of local businesses to ensure our provision is preparing our students for the ever changing world of work, and we regularly review labour market information to inform planning.

We use student voice to evaluate careers provision and appreciate feedback from parents and carers via the regular Parents Association meetings.
