GDST benefits
When you join the Sixth Form at The Belvedere Academy, you don’t just join Liverpool’s top Sixth Form. You become part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST).
The GDST is the UK’s leading network of girls’ schools. This unique family of 25 schools and academies has a long history of pioneering innovation in the education of girls.
A GDST Sixth Form is about more than the outstanding education we provide – although our results speak for themselves – it’s also about everything else we do to give young women a head start in their adult lives.
The CareerStart programme provides vital skills to succeed in life outside the classroom. Practical sessions help with networking and managing your online profile, understanding the media, study skills, and with the basics of independent life such as personal budgeting. It also gives you a boost in the critical thinking, negotiation, leadership, teamwork, enterprise and creative skills you’ll need throughout your working life.
We give more specific advice and guidance too. If you want to read Medicine, or Law, we run courses to help you prepare for specialist aptitude tests.
Over the years, the GDST has developed relationships with a handful of select employers who recognise what GDST alumnae can offer their businesses. PwC, Rolls-Royce, Aberdeen Asset Management, The Royal Opera House, Siemens, Gardiner & Theobald and Nomura have hosted insight days to help Sixth Formers understand the range and complexity of their businesses, and the variety of roles within them.
At a GDST Sixth Form, you’ll be part of a community of young women like you – hard-working, driven, intellectually curious, with a great sense of fun and a commitment to the wider community. You’ll have the chance to meet and work with young women from other GDST Sixth Forms at GDST events, like the Young Leaders’ Conference or sports rallies.
There are GDST prizes and scholarships available exclusively to our Sixth Formers. These range from travel to classics, law, poetry and all-round achievement. Some involve significant financial support for university studies.
GDST Sixth Formers become members of the GDST Alumnae Network, which brings together 75,000 former pupils from across all generations, and across all of our schools. No single school has a network anything like it – and it’s yours to plug into for career development and university advice. Alumnae Facebook groups at 25 UK universities provide a ready-made community before you apply.
A GDST Sixth Form education at The Belvedere Academy will help you achieve the best results you could hope for – and give you the confidence and skills to build on that success right through life.
