More about the GDST

The Belvedere Academy

The Foundation

We believe positive relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We know that by creating and fostering these relationships amongst our staff and young people, our students will have the best chance to achieve the best possible outcomes for them. Following our work with the HEARTs project where we have integrated psychological responses to behaviour, including being attachment and trauma aware, into our daily practice we recognise that there are occasions when our young people struggle with the demands of mainstream school life.

Therefore, at Belvedere, we have set up The Foundation to support our students with full integration.

What is it?

The Foundation is an in-house short term placement offering students some curriculum lessons alongside a therapeutic curriculum designed to support their reintegration back into the mainstream. This offer works in conjunction with a city-wide pilot to increase the level of family support and counselling students and their families can receive.

Who will go there?

There is a referral process for The Foundation but it is suitable for a range of students with varying SEMH needs including students with secondary behavioural issues or students who feel they cannot attend school.

How does it work?

Our young people will attend a 6 week placement in a designated area of the school where they will be taught English, Maths, Science, and PSHE lessons by subject specialist teachers as well as taking part in a thematic and therapeutic curriculum designed to help them overcome their barriers to learning.
